About
The two primary aims of the Market are: (1) to promote the consumption of food grown in and around cites and (2) to facilitate personal connection between growers and buyers. Food would be grown by backyard gardeners, community gardens and organic farmers close to cities. Members can make “seller” or “buyer” postings. The Market can be searched using a number of criteria.

Categories of appropriate and inappropriate posts are as follows:
•Appropriate posts: Sale, exchange or gift of fruit, vegetables, herbs, nuts, seeds, preserves and any other foods grown in and around cities, as well chickens and second hand garden implements. Locally grown food wanted postings from, for example, restaurants, schools, charities or consumers
• Inappropriate posts: From farmers using industrialised chemical farming, reselling of food bought from markets, products that are not related to food gardening

Although Cityfood Growers reviews Market posts for appropriateness, it makes no claim about the accuracy of the information provided by market posters or accepts any liability relating to Market posts

Market rules
The Market provides a listing vehicle for posts, with an opportunity for the visitor to connect with the poster. Sale, pickup or delivery resulting from a Market post are concluded directly between the poster and the buyer, as such Cityfood Growers has no connection to the end transaction. Its important members apply reasonable ethics within the Market and it is aimed that the Market community becomes self regulating. Here are some Market rules:
• Produce quality - No guarantee is made on food quality food listed on the Market, though if a seller has certifications, this should be shown in the grower profile.
• Pricing – The price of the transaction is set between the poster and the buyer. The poster can list the price on the market, but this is not mandatory. It is believed that direct connection between the seller and buyer will facilitate fair value prices.
• Exchange or gift posts – A “seller” post may be for exchange goods (in exchange for other produce, which is common for food gardeners) or gift (to charities, schools or people, who cannot afford to buy good quality food). This should be noted by the poster.
• Poster credibility - In the interests of Member community, it is important that posters have a profile and members who have dealt with the poster, use the “rate a poster” function.
• Pickup/delivery –To be arranged between the poster and the buyer. It is likely that a buyer will generally be relatively near to a poster and this is certainly the intent of the market (to encourage consumption of locally grown food).
• Post removal – When a transaction has been completed from your post and the post is no longer accurate, please remove the post, by hitting “Close post” on the post form. All posts will be automatically removed when they have gone 7 days after their end date.

Edit post

To edit an existing Market post, open it from the Market search page and hit the “Edit” icon. Only the original poster will see this edit icon for the post and have capacity to edit it.

Posting rules

• All posts must be approved by the Market administrator before being listed. This will take no more than 24 hours. If there is a problem with your post the administrator will contact you by email, otherwise assume it will be listed. • Removal of posts - Where a seller does a post, the posting will be automatically removed from the Market 7 days after the end date of the post.

Contact a poster

A poster can be contacted by a Newsletter or Gardener subscriber when logged in. By hitting the Contact button on any post, you will open an email box in the Market enabling you to send a message to the poster. This message can go to the subscriber personal email address or to their subscriber account. It is then up to the poster to make return contact with you.

Rate a poster

1. A subscriber who has concluded a transaction with a poster can rate the poster with a star rating from 1-5, with 5 being the best. The buyer can do this by going to the rating checkbox, selecting a number and then saving.
2. Seller postings are automatically de-listed 7 days from the end date of the posting, so it is important that the subscriber/buyer carries out the rating as quickly as possible after the transaction, otherwise they will not be able to rate the seller.
3. When the subscriber/seller makes a new post to the market, their listing will show aggregate number of ratings and a scale of individual ratings.
4. The “rate a poster” function relies on the goodwill of the community to be self regulating and honest. It is possible that some subscriber may not be truthful, but we hope this is rare.
