Overview

The Cityfood Growers web site provides a large and easily accessible resource of information on organic gardening. The content is ideally laid out for upper primary, high school and tertiary students in Agriculture and horticulture courses, as it provides for easy searching. This promotes a scientific and objective approach to plant selection and plant management on over 200 of the most commonly grown vegetables, herbs, fruit trees, grains and green manure crops.

"Students are very IT driven nowadays and traditional methods of presenting information in a textbook or manual cannot be used in isolation. The Cityfood Growers website gives students quick, easy access to a range of materials on how to grow their own sustainable garden, which is part of their Agriculture curriculum. It will teach them to be more proficient in gardening. The website provides an exciting new partnership integrating Information Communication Technology (ICT) into a classroom setting". Volker Jahnke, Agricultural manager, Ferny Grove State High School

Web site access

Students are provided with a multi-user login access to the web site subscriber area. This will enable use of all plant search functions, viewing of Gardening Tips and other functional areas on the web site. Students can view the Event calendar, Market, Forum, Blog and subscriber profile, but will not have access to make posts to any of these.

Teachers managing the Agriculture/horticulture courses are provided with a higher access level on the web site to use the site as a teaching tool, as well as a student self-help resource with garden project work.
